Taiwan opened a representative office in Hargeisa, the capital of the breakaway region of Somaliland in northwest Somalia. “We are very pleased that Taiwan is opening a representative office,” Somaliland Foreign Minister Yasin Haji Mohamoud said at the opening ceremony. Somaliland has appointed a representative to Taiwan and plans to have an office soon, he said.
Eswatini is the only African nation that has formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, with most countries pushing for greater political and economic ties with China.
An important milestone for the #Taiwan-#Somaliland partnership! Today we opened the Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland. We are bound together by our shared values of freedom, democracy, justice & the rule of law, ideals that will guide our future cooperation. pic.twitter.com/upAcpnJGfp
