Sparkle Chooses Djibouti Data Center As Its IP Hub In Africa

Telecom service provider Sparkle has announced that it has moved its Djibouti Point of Presence (PoP) into the Djibouti Data Center selecting it as Sparkle’s IP hub for its expansion to East and South Africa.

The Djibouti Data Center is the first Tier 3 carrier-neutral data centre in East Africa with direct access to all major international and regional cable systems connecting the European, Middle Eastern and Asian markets with Africa, the company revealed.

These cables include SEAMEWE 5, AAE-1, SEAMEWE 3, Eassy, SEACOM and EIG; other upcoming cables like DARE and PEACE are also expected to land in the Djibouti Data Centre.

“The move will enable Sparkle to strengthen the performance of its global Tier-1 IP transit service Seabone providing cost effective, high quality and secure connectivity to local and international OTT’s, ISPs, Content and Application Providers,” said Sparkle in a written statement.

“In addition to Seabone, customers can benefit from Sparkle’s Ethernet Suite service to connect different international data environments with maximum flexibility and transparency.”

In June this year, Sparkle announced the construction of Nibble, its new photonic backbone linking Sicily with the major Points of Presence (PoPs) and data centres in Europe.

Built upon new express fibres, the company revealed that Nibble will provide connectivity services between the most important European locations.

In the same month, Sparkle announced the opening of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Aqaba, Jordan.

The new PoP is in cooperation with Naitel, an integrated Jordan based operator with proprietary data centres and a nationwide network.

Located by the Red Sea, Aqaba in Jordan has the potential to become a gravitational hub in the Middle Eastern region, leveraging on Naitel’s open data centre and on Sparkle’s international network and Tier 1 global IP backbone Seabone, the company revealed.
