Kenya's low-cost airline Fly540 has cancelled all flights to Lamu following a suspected al-Shabaab attack on Manda airstrip.In a brief notice shared on the social media sites, the airline indicated the decision was informed by security concerns in the area and will resume services when the situation normalises.READ ALSO: The airline also indicated the Manda airstrip in Lamu has been closed paralysing the services further. All flights to and from Lamu are hereby cancelled," read the notice.The botched attack by the Somali based militants happened at around 5:30am on Sunday, January 5, but was neutralised leaving four terrorists dead. A statement issued by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) indicated the terror group had attempted to breach security at the airstrip. "This morning at around 5:30am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Airstrip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe," said KDF.However, another statement doing rounds on social media indicated the Somali-based militia claimed responsibility of the attack which allegedly left many soldiers.The airstrip is adjacent to Camp Simba military base which hosts military personnel from both Kenya and the United States forces.
